BENJAMIN  EDWIN  "BEN"  BESHORE   -   10/21/1981

After Beshore graduated from VA Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, he got his start in NASCAR racing with Brewco Motorsports and owner Tim Brewer. He worked for Tim from 2004-2007 as a shock specialist; and served as car chief; engineer and tire carrier. From 2008-2014 he worked for Jack Roush as a race engineer. In 2015 he moved to Joe Gibbs Racing and called his first race in 2017 as he filled in three races as Kyle Busch's crew chief because Adam Stevens was out. He became a full time crew chief in 2019 in the Xfinity Series. JGR fielded an Xfinity car that had various drivers that season. Kyle Busch himself drove four seven events and won on four occasions. Beshore got his first win with Busch in Las Vegas; before adding wins at Phoenix; Texas and Indianapolis. The due won three of the seasons first six Xfinity races. In 2020 Joe Gibbs put Beshore with a driver competing full time in the Xfinity Series and racing for the Championship. He was paired up with Harrison Burton and they won the season third race, which came at Fontana CA. Burton would win again in the season's ninth race which was at Homestead. The duo also had two second place finishes, and had a worst finish of ninth in the seasons first ten races. Burton had a rough go of it in round one of the Chase as he posted finishes of ninth, 23rd and 33rd; and was eliminated from the Chase.  Round two saw Burton more like his usual

self and Beshore led him to two wins in the seasons final three races.  The paid had four wins for the year and finished eighth in points.  After a dismal 2020 for Kyle Busch; JGR decided to split up the long time combination of Busch and Adan Stevens.  Beshore moved up to the Cup Series to call the shots full time for Busch in 2021.  Harrison Burton saw Jason Ratcliff move over to be his lead wrench in 2021.  The pair had a pretty good season.  I say only ‘pretty good” because just two wins isn’t normal Kyle Busch results.  But when Kyle Larson gobbled up ten wins in 2021; that didn’t leave many for everyone else.  Busch got the win at Kansas; which was the first win as a Cup crew chief for Beshore.  A few weeks later at Pocono.  They had 14 Top 5 and21 Top 10 finishes for the year.  They were back together in 2022 and had an interesting season.  He and Beshore finished sixth at Daytona; but was 14th at Fontana.  They followed that with finishes of fourth and seventh the next two events. A crash at the new reconfigured Atlanta Speedway left him in 33rd; and he was spun in the waning laps at COTA leaving him finishing 28th.  But they bounced back with a ninth at Richmond; followed that with a seventh at Martinsville and won at Bristol on the dirt.  Starting at Richmond they went on a run with only one finish worse than ninth in nine consecutive races.  That included the win at Bristol; seconds at Charlotte and Gateway and thirds at Talladega and Kansas.  But trouble was looming as JGR as it was announced that long time sponsor M&M's was leaving NASCAR and ceasing it's sponsorship of Busch at the end of 2022.  JGR kept saying they could not find anyone interested in picking up the sponsorship.  This became a thorn in everyone's side, and it appeared the quality of car JGR took to the track for Busch seemed to drop off.  Suddenly he wasn't very competitive.  After his great run of finishes; it was like you turned off the faucet.  He had six races where he only finished inside the top 20 once... and had a stretch of 16 races where he was better than tenth just one time.  During this span of races, the Play-offs started; and with finishes of 30th; 26th and 34th Busch was out.  Interesting fact was, Busch was leading the Southern 500 with 27 laps to go when his motor blew up under yellow.  His motor expired again at Bristol when he finished 34th.  WHAT was going on??. None of his team mates had motor issues; and we are now in an era when we hardly ever see a motor blow up. After sitting and waiting for JGR to find a sponsor; Busch decided he had waited long enough and signed a contract to drive the #8 car for Richard Childress in 2023.  I haven't found any info on Beshore's plan for 2023.  When Kyle Busch left to go drive for Richard Childress, that left Beshore looking for a job.  Ben stayed with Joe Gibbs Racing and ended up paired with John Hunter Nemechek in the Xfinity series in 2023.  The duo had a successful season grabbing seven wins on the season.  They started off second at Daytona, and pulled into victory lane the next race at Fontana.  He was in the winners circle again at Martinsville and scored back-to-back wins later at Atlanta and Loudon NH.  They continued to pile up wins and Top 5 finishes; easily making it into the Championship race at Phoenix.  There Nemechek won stage 1 and was third in stage 2.  They were leading with 15 laps to go and on a late restart he over drove his car going into turn one and went way high and got passed by a large majority of the field when he lost traction.  This mistake so late in the race cost him his shot to win the Championship and he ended up finishing 28th.  Nemechek and Beshore will be on the move in 2024.  As Nemechek has earned another shot at the Cup level, Beshore will go back to the Cup level with him as his crew chief, driving the #42 for Legacy Motor Club.  To date he has three wins in the Cup Series; all with Kyle Busch.  He has had 71 starts and has 23 top five and 39 top ten finishes.  In the Xfinity Series his drivers have made 99 starts and has 15 wins. Four with Busch; four with Harrison Burton, and the seven this year with Nemechek.  He adds 39 top five and 61 top tens.
