JASON  BURDETT   -   11/08/1977

got his first crack at being a crew chief as a part time gig. He led Dale Jarrett for 14 races in 2007. He didn't sit on top of the war wagon again until 2015 when he was hired by JR Motorsports to lead Regan Smith in a full time effort in the Xfinity series. They won at Mid-Ohio and follow that up with another win at Dover. They finished fourth in the points. He was partnered with Justin Allgaier for 2016; and although they didn't visit victory lane they had a good season finishing third in the points. They made the Chase and advanced all the way to the final race at Homestead. No one had anything for eventual race winner; and Xfinity champion Daniel Suarez. 2017 saw them get two wins and again found themselves in the season's finale in the hunt for the Championship. This season William Byron had the strongest car; lapping all but eight cars.

Allgaier finished twelfth.  2018 was a great season for Allgaier and Burdett.  They combined for five wins, including one at Indianapolis. They advanced through the first two rounds easily; but a 38th and a 24th place finishes in round three eliminated them for any shot at the title.  2019 would see Burdett again work with Allgaier.  It was a tough season to get a win because of 'the big three'; combination of Cole Custer, Christopher Bell and Tyler Reddick being so strong and grabbing so many wins.  The trio had 21 wins out of 33 races.  Stiill, Allgaier gave it his best shot as he and Burdett tried to find a way to get into victory lane.  They kicked off with a second at Daytona and would have additional second place finishes at Dover (twice), Charlotte and Indianapolis.  They had 16 Top 5 finishes and was able to make the playoffs via points. B urdett worked hard to give Allgaier a competitive car and run well in the playoffs.  In the playoffs; prior to the final race; the worst finish Allgaier had was sixth as they duo tried to work their way into the season finale' at Miami.  Still he had to win at Phoenix (the race before Miami) to guarantee himself a shot at winning the Championship.  Unfortunately when the race played out at Miami; Allgaier's car just didn't have the speed to keep up with the best cars.  He lost a lap on the track and ended the race in 14th place and fourth in the 2019 points.  Allgaier and Burdett had a good season in 2020.  The pair got back to victory lane at Dover.  NASCAR held a double header weekend at Richmond just before the Chase started.  Burdett led Allgaier to a win in both races. They ran well enough to point his way into the Championship race at Phoenix.  In that race he ran well and finished in the top three on both of the stages.  A late race yellow put the race into over time.  Most teams pitted for new tires in the two lap shoot-out; while Allgaier stayed out in hopes enough cars stayed out to give him a buffer so he might squirt away and grab the win.  That wasn't the case as only a few cars stayed out; and when the green flew, Allgaier was swallowed up by the cars with new tires.  He ended up fifth and ended second in points.  As 2021 rolled around they paired up again to chase that elusive Championship both had been after.  The pair had another good season in 2021.  Allgaier won twice early in the season; Atlanta and Darlington.  He had four second place finishes and ended up with 16 Top 5 and 23 Top 10’s on the year.  They were competitive in the Chase; but just missed making it into the Championship race.  Burdett and Justin Allgaier paired together for the seventh year in a row to try and grab that elusive Xfinity Series Championship.  They kicked off the 2022 campaign with a fifth at Daytona; and followed that up with an eighth, a fifth and a tenth; putting him in a good spot to try and chase down the regular season championship.  A crash at Atlanta and a late spin at COTA left him with two finishes worse than 33rd.  Richmond was the only race where he finished inside the top 15 in a five race span.  But Burdett led Allgaier as they rebounded to finish second at Dover; and then drove into victory lane at Darlington.  They followed that with a fourth and a seventh, before they won again at Nashville.  Three races later they were back in victory lanes at Loudon NH.  When the play-offs started Allgaier crashed and finished 29th.  But a couple of good runs saw him advance on to the next round.  Three finishes inside the top ten in the round of eight saw him advance to the Championship Four.  At phoenix, no one could keep up with Ty Gibbs the whole day as he drove off into the sunset to claim the Xfinity Championship.  For 2023, JRM has decided to shake up the crew chief and driver combinations.  Burdett will be paired up with Brandon Jones. Jones is coming to JRM after leaving JGR.  Allgaier will have Jim Pohlman calling the shots for him.  THREE of the top Xfinity series drivers will leave the series in 2023 and move to run the Cup Series full time.  Gibbs will drive the #54 for JGR; AJ Allmendinger will drive the #16 for Kaulig Racing, while Noah Gragson will drive the #42 for Petty GMS.  For his career, Burdett called the shots for Dale Jarrett for 14 races in 2007. The rest of his time has been spent in the Xfinity Series.  All but one year with Allgaier.  After being with Allgaier for the previous seven seasons and racking up 16 wins in that time span; JRM decided to move Burdett over to lead the efforts of Brandon Jones.  The pair had a dismal year as they were only able to get three top five finishes.  They did almost win at Kansas when Jones finished second to John Hunter Nemechek.  But it was tough to grab a win in 2023 when you had Nemechek getting seven wins, Allgaier had four, Sam Mayer had three, and so on. Burdett won’t return to JRM in 2024, as he will move to Legacy Motor Club to lead the part-time efforts of Jimmie Johnson in the #84. No updates as of now who will lead the #9 team.  He has 293 starts and 18 wins.  He also has 113 top five and 193 top tens with his drivers.  Every year but one his drivers have finished in the top five in championship points.  The best was a second in 2020.
