RANDELL  BURDETTE   -   ?/?/?

Burnette got his first start as a NASCAR crew chief when he was hired by JTG-Daugherty Racing to lead the efforts of AJ Allmendinger in the Cup Series.  Allmendinger finished second at Martinsville and had nine Top 10 finishes.  In 2017 Allmendinger had a series of crew chiefs; and had Burnett for just seven events.  They almost pulled off a win in the Daytona 500, finishing third.  After seven races, Burnett moved to work for owner Richard Childress in the Xfinity Series.  He led five different drivers who wheeled the #2 car.  Paul Menard posted the best finish with a second at Indianapolis.  Austin Dillon added a third at Charlotte.  A quartet of drivers ran a total of 23 races and had five Top 5 and 10 Top 10 finishes.  In 2018, Childress paired Burnett up with young driver Matt Tifft.  Tifft ran well posting six Top 5 and 19 Top 10's.  He had a best finish of second at Elkhart Lake on the road course and finished sixth in points.  2019 saw Childress put Tyler Reddick in the #2 car full time and the duo performed well.  Reddick racked up six wins; a whopping 24 Top 5 and 27 Top 10 finishes.  He claimed the Xfinity Championship, and this led Childress to move Reddick up into the Cup Series to drive his #8 entry.  Burnett also made the move to the Cup

Series in 2020; as they duo tried to claim the Rookie of the Year title for Reddick.  They had three Top 5's along with a second place finish at Texas.  They also had nine Top 10's; but failed to win Rookie of the Year since Cole Custer pulled off a win and made the Chase.  The pair made increases in their performance in 2021.  Still no wins came their way; but they had several good runs including a second at the Charlotte Roval and at Homestead.  At Homestead, made a late race charge and given a few more laps could have won.  They had three Top 5 and 16 Top 10 results.  They were back together again in 2022.  They put together a great season, although it got off to a rocky start.  Reddick crashed out of the Daytona 500 finishing 35th. They were 24th at Fontana; but posted a good run at Las Vegas coming home seventh.  The next week at Phoenix he was in it for the win, but could not out-run Chase Briscoe who went to victory lane.  Reddick finished third. A crash at Atlanta was followed by a fifth at COTA.  Reddick looked to be on his way to his first Cup win on the dirt at Bristol.  On the last lap, in the final turn, Chase Briscoe tried to get past and spun himself and Reddick, giving the win to Kyle Busch.  He came home second even after the spin.  Another second would come at Darlington as he seemed to be right on the cusp of getting that elusive first win.  Finally, when the Cup cars went to Elkhart Lake he was able to out run Chase Elliott and get his first win; and also the first Cup win for Burnett.  A month later, on another road course, Reddick won again, this time at the road course at Indianapolis.  Another close call came at Daytona as he was second in the final race of the regular season.  When the chase started, he finished third at Darlington; but was bit by bad luck the next two races.  He crashed out at Kansas and the next week also received damage at Bristol.  This eliminated him from the Chase.  The very next race, he won at Texas getting his third win of the year.  About mid-season Reddick had announced that he would leave at the end of the 2023 season, to go and drive for 23XI Racing. This caused hard feeling between Richard Childress and Reddick, as Childress had not been notified before the announcement was made.  In the end, Kyle Busch would come to drive the #8 car for RCR in 2023; while Reddick would leave a year early and go to 23XI in 2023.  Burdett will now become the crew chief for Kyle Busch in 2023.  Burnett and Kyle Busch kicked off the season on the right foot.  They won the second race of the season.  They won again at Talladega, and got a third win when the series went to St Louis.  Their run in the championship chase came to an end when they were eliminated after the Round of 12.  For the year they had three wins, and ten top five finishes.  To date, Burdett has led his drivers in 184 Cup starts and has six wins.  He also has 29 top fives.  In the Xfinity his drivers have made 89 starts.  He has six wins; all coming with Reddick in 2019.
