SHELDON  MICHAEL  CREED   -   09/30/1997

Creed was born in southern California in the city of Alpine, California; and has been nicknamed “The Showstopper”. Creed began riding BMX bikes when he was three years old, winning a state championship two years later.  He later switched to motocross and won two Barona MX Park championships in 2005.  That year, he was also invited to KTM's Jr Supercross Challenge, in which he finished second.  Due to his mother's concerns about potential injury, Creed moved away from motocross.  When he was eight, he competed in Quarter Midget racing in the Orange Show Quarter Midget Racing Association and set various track records.  His dirt track racing experience also included sprint cars beginning in 2011.  At the age of nine, Creed began racing Trophy Karts in Championship Off-Road Racing (CORR), where he finished fourth in his first year.  In 2008, he won the M4SX and JR 1 Kart championships, followed by the SXS Stadium Series' Stadium Kart JR 1 title a year later.  His 2009 season also included a third-place points finish in the SXS Stadium Kart Modified standings.

From 2009 to 2011, Creed won a championship in every year of Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) kart competition.  In 2009, he won the Junior 1 Kart and Modified Kart titles to become the series' third driver to win multiple class championships in the same year.  The following year, he won the Junior 2 Karts.  In 2011, Creed won a pair of Lucas Oil Regional championships in the Modified Karts and SuperLite Southern California divisions.  He is one of only three drivers to ever win LOORRS Championships simultaneously.  In September, he made his SuperLite national debut at Speedworld Offroad Park, where he recorded a runner-up finish in the weekend's second race.  Three months later, he won his first national race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  In 2012, he ran the

full SuperLite and Modified Kart national schedules.  While he finished fifth in the latter's standings with no wins, he won seven SuperLite races to clinch that series' championship.  Creed ran his first full Pro Lite season in 2013 with support from former LOORRS race director Tony Vanilo. Creed ended the season with a third-place points finish, 29 points behind champion Brian Deegan (father of Hailie Deegan).  On May 4, 2013, Creed joined the Stadium Super Trucks (SST) at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. After being the third-fastest driver in qualifying and finishing second in the Last Chance Qualifier race, Creed exited the final race after completing seven of 20 laps and finished tenth.  When the series returned to 

Qualcomm Stadium two weeks later, he  set the fastest lap time in qualifying before finishing second in the final to Robby Gordon.  Gordon, the SST founder and a former NASCAR driver, would become Creed's mentor as he moved into stock cars.  At Honda Indy Toronto in July, Creed took the lead from P. J. Jones on lap three after the two collided and spun out, though they were far enough from the other drivers to keep their positions; while the damage forced Jones to make a pit stop for repairs, Creed remained on the track and led the final six laps to win his first SST race.

At the age of 15, he was the series' youngest race winner.  Creed ran the full 2014 schedule, scoring three wins and nine podium finishes. The 2014 Pro Lite season began with six consecutive podium finishes, including a win at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.  Creed continued to race Pro Lites in 2015, running ten races with four second-place finishes.  He also was the X-Game gold medalist in SST.  In August, he substituted for the injured Brad DeBerti in the #70 at Wild West Motorsports Park; Creed went on to win the first race after taking the lead early, and DeBerti was credited with the victory in the standings.  In 2016, Creed competed in the Dakar Rally in a Robby Gordon-owned Gordini with Dakar motorcyclist Jonah Street as his navigator. At the age of 18, he was the youngest driver to compete in the event.  Creed moved to stock cars in 2016 

with the ARCA Racing Series, and he would win its title in 2018.  Upon switching to stock cars, Creed continued to race in SST whenever the opportunity is available.  Creed finished seventh in his ARCA debut at Nashville in the #38 Ford.  He had five Top 5 finishes in the ARCA Series in the eleven races he ran.  Then 2018 saw him run the full series and he posted four win and 6 Top 5 finishes in 20 starts and claimed the Championship.  2019 saw him move to a full time ride in the NASCAR Truck series.  He had a best finish of second on two occasions.  He lost to Stewart Friesen at Eldora on the dirt; and the next week he got edged out by Austin Hill at Michigan.  He had four Top 5 and 11 Top 10’s and he would finish tenth in points.  He broke through and got his first NASCAR win in 2020; it

came at Kentucky when he would out run Ben Rhodes.  He would win at Daytona on the road course; and two weeks later grab a win at World Wild Technology Raceway at Gateway in Madison, IL.  He was running strong and had momentum behind him as the Chase kicked off at Bristol.  He finished eleventh at Bristol and second at Kansas before surviving Talladega to finish 12th.  He would claim his fourth win at Texas which automatically advanced him into the Championship race. At Phoenix, Creed, Zane Smith and Brett Moffit would wage a war for the win.  It looked like Moffit was going to claim the race win; but a late race 

yellow sent them to overtime.  Creed took a chance and pitted for four fresh GoodYears for the two lap shootout and would restart about eighth.  The trucks that stayed out were on old worn tires, and Creed knifed through the field to be leading at the white flag and drive away to the win and the Truck Championship.  2021 didn’t go quite as well for Creed; getting just three wins.  He won the Spring race at  Darlington; and again won at Gateway.  He claimed his third win when the trucks returned to Darlington in the Fall.  In the Chase, he started with major issues as he finished 19th at Bristol, and crashed out on lap 70 at Las Vegas finishing 36th.  He just managed to squeak into the

next round of the playoffs.  He ran well, but was eliminated from contention for the Championship at the end of round three.  Creed would leave the Truck series after 2021 to go to drive for Richard Childress Racing in the Xfinity series; where he would join team mate Austin Hill.  After such a good showing running the Truck Series; it was expected he would move up to the Xfinity Series and be a strong contender.  It didn't pan out that way.  He almost pulled off the win at Darlington in the fall as he; Kyle Larson and Noah Gragson battled at the end.  Creed led 47 of the last 50 laps; but was denied the win.  Creed led with two to go, as you could throw a blanket over the three contenders for the win.  It was tight quarters on the slippery Darlington 

surface, and Creed's car slipped just a bit going into turn one.  Larson was there to pounce, as both he and Gragson got by Creed.  Gragson also passed Larson and led at the white flag.  Creed got back around Larson; but by this time, Gragson had gotten too far ahead for Creed to catch up, as Gragson took the win and Creed came home second.  Creed posted four top five finishes and had 13 top tens.  He just missed on making it into the Chase for the Championship.  He was back with RCR in 2023 racing in the Xfinity Series, and showed improvement over the previous year.  He wasn’t able to get a win; but several weeks he was so close.  It wasn’t all smooth sailing

however; as he had a few run-ins with his own team-mate, Austin Hill.  The first run-in with Hill came at Bristol when the two crashed battling for position late in the race.  This prompted hill to state “With team-mates like him; who needs enemies”.  Custer almost got a win at Talladega when he finished second to Jeb Burton.  At the mid-season point his performance showed great improvement and he propelled him into the Chase for the Xfinity Championship.  He finished second at Watkins Glen, and then at Daytona.  He added a third and eighth place finish as the regular season closed out.  In the play offs he finished 11th at Bristol (where he had the run in with Hill).  Two more top ten finishes saw him advance to the Round of Eight.  He 

started off with a 15th at Las Vegas and then was 26th at Homestead.  Going into Martinsville he was in a must-win situation to make it to the Championship race the following week at Phoenix.  As the race wound down Custer had the best car; and was battling team-mate Hill for the win.  Hill kept blocking Custer.  It should be noted that if Custer won and Hill finished in the top five that BOTH of them would advance to the Championship race.  The race went into overtime and the two drivers started side by side.  Custer dove inside of hill going into turn three on the final lap and instead of falling in behind Custer; Hill cut down on Custer

and the two made contact and went up the track.  This opened the door for Justin Allgaier on the bottom and he filled the hole.  Allgaier and Custer came to the finish line side by side; and Allgaier got the win.  Custers second place finish eliminated him; and Hill being overly aggressive cause him to spin out; and he also missed a shot at running for the Championship.  At Phoenix Custer again finished second.  For the year he had five second place finishes; seven top five and 15 top ten finishes.  Creed decided to leave RCR and as of now it is not known who he will drive for in 2024.  Custer also made his first career Cup start in 2023.  It came at Kansas in September.  He would drive the #78 for Live Fast Motorsports and start 34th.  He ran a clean race and finished 29th.  Some info from Wikipedia.
