Fantasy NASCAR Racing

The fairgrounds hosted NASCAR Modified races in 1951 on three occasions. Those races were won by Charles Rush, Joe Eubanks and Fireball Roberts. The Cup Series would visit one time; in 1958.  Tiny Lind won the pole; but unbeknownst to him he must have broken the A-frame in qualifying.  He fell out after lap one for that reason.  Three cars put on a great race as they were the only cars to finish on the lead lap.  Buck Baker out beat Lee Petty and Bob Welborn.  The fourth place finisher was Whitey Norman, four laps down.
