WILLIAM  BRENDAN  GAUGHAN   -   07/10/1975

is the grandson of Vegas gaming pioneer Jackie Gaughan and son of Michael Gaughan, a hotel and casino magnate.  Gaughan made his NASCAR debut in a Truck Series race in 1997 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Driving the #20 Orleans Hotel & Casino Dodge for Evans, he qualified 18th and finished 24th.  He then decided to move to stock car racing. He ran in the Winston West Series in 1999, and was the 2000 and 2001 champion on the circuit.  In 2001, he made his Xfinity Series debut at Fontana starting 43rd and finishing 41st after electrical issues.  In 2002, Gaughan and his father fielded a team for himself in the Truck Series full-time. He drove the #62 NAPA Auto Parts to two victories on his way to the Rookie of the Year title.  The following year Gaughan posted six wins, but could only manage a fourth place finish in the points.  In 2004, Gaughan moved up to the NASCAR Cup, driving the #77 Eastman Kodak Dodge for Penske-Jasper Racing.  He finished second in the Rookie of the Year standings and was only able to post one Top 5 finish,

and was 28th in the final points standings.  He finished the season with 4 Top 10's including a career best fourth place finish at Talladega Super Speedway. In 2005, he moved back to the Truck Series, behind the wheel of the Jasper Engines & Transmissions/Orleans Racing #77 Dodge Ram.  He finished 19th in the final points standings, with two Top 5 and seven Top 10 finishes.  Starting with the September 23 race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the team began sport a new livery of the South Point Casino in which his father, Michael, is the owner.  He remained in the Truck series full time through 2008; in that span in posted nine Top 5 finishes; but no wins in 2009 and 2010, Gaughan

drove the #62 Chevy for Rusty Wallace Racing in the Xfinity Series.  For 2011 Gaughan returned to the Camping World Truck Series, driving the #62 South Point Toyota for Germain Racing where he posted one win.  2012 saw him bounce around between all three of NASCAR's major series; before hooking up with Richard Childress and running full time in the Truck series in 2013.  In 2014 the duo moved up to the Xfinity series and saw Gaughan visit victory lane twice and in 2015 they remained together, and posted a second place finish early in the season; but never was able to find victory lane.  In 2016 he posted four top five finishes and qualified for the new Chase format the Xfinity series had implemented.  He had issues in the first couple races of the elimination round and ended up 12th in

the points.  2017 saw Gaughan drove in four Cup races (all at Daytona or Talladega) and finished in the top 11 twice.  He again ran the full Xfinity Series schedule; and posted just two Top 5 finishes.  He did make the Chase however; and even though he had runs of 15th or better each race; his competitors did better and he was eliminated after the first round.  He went on to finish 10th in the points.  At the end of 2017, Gaughan announced that was his final year of full time racing in NASCAR; however he would continue to race part-time in the Cup Series.  Gaughan ran four Cup races in 2018 driving for owner Mark Beard. He raced only at the restrictor plate tracks of Daytona and Talladega, making four starts.   He put the car up front dicing it up with the leaders and posted two 12th place finishes.  2019

saw the duo pair up again to run the same four races. Gaughan finished 23rd in the Daytona 500 after being caught up in a crash while running in the lead pack on the races last lap. He posted an eighth place finish at Talladega leading on several occasions. At Daytona in July he got caught up in an accident before the end of stage two ruining his shot of winning.   Finally he was running right at the front once again on NASCAR's second trip to Talladega when he again got caught up in someone else's wreck with five laps to go. The accident took out 11 cars.  Prior to the 2020 season; Gaughan announced this would be his final season.  He would race four races; the super speedways wheeling the car owned by Mark Beard; just like the previous three seasons.  At Daytona he had a good run finishing seventh.  Talladega was the usual crap shoot and

he got caught up in traffic late in the race finishing 21st.  When NASCAR had to make up races due to the outbreak of Covid; they added a road course race at Daytona Speedway.  Since Gaughan had raced the Rolex 24 on that track; the team decided to jump in and run that race.  Gaughan ran well until his transmission broke and he finished 39th.  Once again at Daytona he ran well and posted an eighth place finish.  In his final race he again ran well; but got caught up in a major ten car accident on the front stretch just past half way.  The damage to the car ended his race; as the car ended up on the hook being towed to the garage.  For his NASCAR Cup career Gaughan only race one season full time (2005); and he posted a best finish of fourth.  He ran at least on race in nine

different seasons running 67 races.  He had one top five and eight top ten finishes.  He raced at least one race in the Xfinity Series in from 2001-2018.  He drove full time 2009-2010 for owner Rusty Wallace; and then full time for owner Richard Childress 2014-2017.  In his Xfinity career he won twice (Elkhart Lake and Kentucky; both 2014); he also had 20 top five and 67 top 10 finishes.  He also raced from 1997-2013 in the Truck Series; full time from 2002-2011 and 2013. He won eight races in his truck career; six of those coming in 2003.  For his Truck career he had 47 top five and 80 top ten finishes in 80 starts.  His best season saw him finish fourth in the points in 2003.  Some info From WikiPedia
