DEBBIE  LUNSFORD   -   07/23/1963

(home - Gainesville, GA)
Debbie grew up around auto racing.  She was the daughter of legendary Bud Lunsford who is a member of both the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame and also the National Dirt Late Model Hall of fame.  Bud used to race five nights a week and Debbie was there for all of it.  She saw her dad build Dixie Speedway and later on built Lanier Speedway outside Gainesville GA.  Debbie would go on to race at Lanier against her future husband Mike Love in the Super Late Model Division.  She claimed 49 wins and two late model championships over her ten years of racing.  She was the first female to win a NASCAR weekly Racing Series championship at Lanier National Speedway.  She made one NASCAR start in the Xfinity Series, and naturally it would come on a track she was familiar with: Lanier Speedway.  She would qualify 15th but issues beset her run, but she would soldier on and was still running at the finish.  She brought her #49 Nestle Quik Buick home in 23rd place.  Bud bought the local bowling ally after he retired, and Debbie was there working until it was sold to new owners in 2021
