BRETT  BRADLEY  MOFFITT   -   08/07/1992

Moffitt began his racing career at the age of 10 in kart racing competition. Following several years of competition in karts and dirt track racing, Moffitt began competing on asphalt in 2008, driving in the American Speed Association's Late Model North Series. He made his debut in NASCAR touring series competition in 2009, driving in the K&N Pro Series East. He went on to score two wins over the course of the season, finishing the year third in series points. His first win, in the fourth race of the season at South Boston Speedway in May, made Moffitt the youngest driver ever to win in the series, and the youngest to win in any NASCAR touring series; the mark stood until the following season, when it was eclipsed by Darrell "Bubba" Wallace Jr. in March 2010. For the 2010 season, Moffitt moved to Joe Gibbs Racing; he scored two wins during the year on his way to finishing second in

points at the end of the season. In 2011, he drove as a development driver for Michael Waltrip Racing, winning three times over the course of the K&N Pro Series East season and finishing third in the series standings. For 2012, Moffitt changed teams again, moving to Hattori Racing Enterprises, owned by former IndyCar and Truck Series driver Shigeaki Hattori. In August 2012, Moffitt made his debut in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, driving for RAB Racing at Iowa Speedway in the U.S. Cellular 250. He finished ninth in the event. In 2013, Moffitt again Drove the K&N Pro Series East with Hattori Racing Enterprises. Moffitt scored 5 top 5 finishes, and 10 top tens in 14 races and finished the season runner up in championship points. He made his Cup Series debut with the MWR-affiliated Identity Ventures Racing in the 2014 FedEx 400. Moffitt ran for

IVRagain at Michigan, Indianapolis, Bristol, Atlanta, Charlotte,Texas, and the season finale at Homestead. In 2015 Moffit drove 31 of 36 races in the Cup Series; He started off as a driver for Michael Waltrip; and moved to owner Bob Jenkins permanently the eleventh race of the season. He posted a best finish of eighth at Atlanta. His time with Michael Waltrip racing was gue to regular driver Brian Vickers having blood clots. His time with owner Bob Jenkins and Front Row motorsports as a replacement for regular driver David Ragan. Ragan was tabbed to take over for Joe Gibbs driver Kyle Busch when he crashed at Daytona and received a broke leg among other injuries. At the end of the season; Moffitt was informed he would not be returning to pilot the race vehicle as Chris Buescher was brought on to fill that seat. Without a ride; Moffitt sat on the sidelines most of the season. He only made six starts; all coming in the Xfinity Series. He

drove for Red Horse Racings owner Tom DeLoach. He made the most of his starts winning at Michigan and added a second and third place finish. 2017 saw Moffitt bounce around and drive in all three of NASCAR's series. He ran seven races in the Cup Series; all for BK Racing. He had one start for GMS in the Xfinity Series and added five additional starts in the Truck Series in the Red Horse Racing machine. 2018 he was hired full time by Shigeaki Hattori to pilot the truck. The team had limited funding and really didn't think they would be able to race the whole season. They knew they had to come up with funding somewhere to continue on. Moffitt won the second race of the season which locked him into the Chase. He won again the ninth race of the season and again the eleventh. Even with these wins the team struggled to get funding to keep

going. On two occasions they had announced they would not be able to run the race the following week; but someone stepped up with enough money to get them to the track. Missing a race would eliminate Moffitt for getting to race for the Championship. As the race for the Championship kicked off Moffitt posted good finishes and kept advancing forward in the Chase. At won at Phoenix the race before Homestead, but still was not considered the front runner to claim the Championship. Johnny Sauter was in the midst of an outstanding season; and he looked to be hard to beat. When race day came; Sauter looked to be struggling in practice and only managed to qualify sixth.

When the green flag flew, Sauter went backwards, and was never a contender all night. Grant enfinger jumped from the pole position into the lead, and led all of the first segment. Moffitt's crew had improved his truck on the pit stop and he was able to run closer to the front. He led the first laps in stage two; but Noah Gragson got by him and drove away.  Moffitt looked to have a long run vehicle as he caught Gragson and went on to win the second stage. Once again, the pit crew got a chance to get their hands on Moffitt's truck and make more changes.  On the restart Gragson jumped into the lead and led for 32 laps.  The lead changed has several times before Moffitt moved to the lead for good and led the final 29 laps to get the win and claim the Championship. Winning the Championship was no guarantee of having a ride for 2019 however. Moffitt was let go because of the teams funding issues and the owner found a driver that could bring a sponsor with him.  In

2019 Iowa win

January 2019; in a surprise development Gallagher Motorsports let their veteran driver Johnny Sauter go; and replaced him with Moffitt in the #24 truck full time.  2019 started out on a sour note as Moffitt crashed out of the season opening race at Daytona.  He quickly regrouped and posted finishes inside the top four in the next three races.  Then Despite not leading a lap and finishing second in June's 2019 M&M's 200 at Iowa, Moffitt was declared the winner after unofficial winner Ross Chastain's truck failed post race inspection, thus making Moffitt the declared winner.  Moffitt became the first winner to achieve a win like this in any of the Top 3 series since Emanuel Zervakis in 1960.  As an added bonus the "win"

also locked Moffitt into the Chase. He kicked round one of the Chase off with a  win and followed that up with another win the next week at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. He breezed through round two; but a crash at Martinsville put his ability to advance to the Championship round in jeopardy. He managed to advance and had a shot at claiming back to back Championships.  Moffitt led a few laps early; but after that he was never at the point. It seemed as the track cooled down; his truck lost it's handling.  He was able to finish fifth in the race; but Matt Crafton finished second in the race and won the Championship; while Ross Chastain finished fourth in the race and second in the Championship.  Gallagher Motor Sports had fielded race vehicles in both the Xfinity and Truck series the last couple years. But in 2019 GMS quit running the Xfinity series and concentrated more on racing in the Truck Series.  Moffitt was back full time in the GMS

#23; and he had full time teammates #2 Sheldon Creed; #26 Tyler Ankrum; and #25 Zane Smith.  A couple other drivers will split time driving the #24 GMS Chevy.  2020 was a great season for GMS.  Clearly concentrating on running JUST the Truck Series paid off.  Moffitt was a busy driver racing all of the Truck Series; most of the Xfinity Series and several races in the Cup Series.  Moffitt won once in the Truck Series; while posting ten top fives.  He advanced to the Chase and won at Kansas making it into the race for the Championship.  Gallagher Motorsports had been strong all year and they were in the Championship race.  Shelton Creed won the Championship; while Zane Smith finished second and Moffitt third; and GMS swept the

top three spots.  In the Xfinity series, Moffitt ran 29 of 33 race for a new up and coming team; Our Motorsports owned by Chris Our.  Moffitt had one top five and seven top ten finishes.  He ran seven Cup races but didn't have a finish better then 31st for BK Racing.  Moffitt is moving up to drive full time in the Xfinity Series in 2021 for Our Motorsports; and was also announced that he would run full time in the Truck Series.  He started out in pursuit of the Truck Series Championship driving for Al Niece.  But after six races he decided he wanted to race for the Xfinity Championship and went to drive for Chris Our and Our Motorsports.  He had run the first six races in both series; and had had great finishes in the Xfinity car with runs of second, seventh, ninth, and eleventh in the first five races.  Meanwhile in the Truck Series he had finishes of ninth and eleventh and the rest were 24th or worse.  So it looked like the logical best move.  The next several races he had

finishes mostly between eighth and 13th.  But things never seemed to gel as he had mechanical issues and crashes that set the team back.  Since he had “technically” missed the first six races in the Xfinity series he wasn’t able to make the Chase via points. (NOTE  - the first six races he raced for Truck series points; so, he did not receive any Xfinity series points those first six races).  He was back with Our Motorsports in 2022 driving in the Xfinity series.  The year started off with a crash at Daytona and a 34th place finish.  Things improved at Fontana, where he finished 19th.  More improvement the next week as he posted a top 10 as he finished eighth at Las Vegas.  He finished inside the top 15 the next two weeks was followed by a seventh place finish at COTA.  He had a couple bad finishes due to mechanical issues; but came back with four out of five runs inside the top 13.  Most of his runs seem to

be in the low teens when they didn't have any issues.  But after 20 races Moffitt and Our parted ways, as Our hired Blaine Perkins and Parker Retzlaff to finish out the season in the #02 Chevy.  Moffitt moved to AM Racing in the Xfinity Series in 2023 and be behind the wheel of the #25. Some weeks the team brought a fast car, and others they just wasn’t fast.  He finished 29th as the season opened at Daytona a lap down.  But they looked good at Fontana bringing home the car ninth.  After a couple of mid-pack runs, he finished a strong sixth at Atlanta.  He had his best run of the season when the Xfinity series made their first

ever trip to the Chicago street course.  He spent most all day running inside the top five and ended up finishing fourth.  For the year he had the lone Top 5 finish and nine Top 10’s.  Moffitt also made one Truck start in 2023.  This came behind the wheel of the #34 owned by Bob Jenkins.  At Talladega, he started 31st, taking 63 laps to work his way into the lead.  He battled Chase Purdy and Christian Eckes the final 36 laps to see who would claim the checkers.  Eckes passed Moffitt as they took the white flag.  But Moffitt battled back and got around Eckes before they got to the checkers and claimed the win.  He will return to the #25 AM Racing Ford in 2024 as AM Racing expands to a two car team; adding Hailie Deegan to it’s line up.  Some info from Wikipedia
