TIMOTHY  J  PETERS   -   08/20/1980

He began his NASCAR career in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2005.  He had two Top 10 finishes in 16 events in the #4 Bailey's Cigarettes Dodge for Bobby Hamilton.  In 2006 he drove the #4 Dodge Motorsports truck for Hamilton during most of the year, earning one top-ten at Milwaukee.  However, Peters left the team in early September and joined Richard Childress Racing, where he was to share their #21 Autozone Chevy with Kevin Harvick in the Xfinity Series in 2007, before he was released after making six starts.  He made just two starts in 2007 in the NASCAR Truck Series, driving the #46 for Morgan-Dollar Motorsports, and had a ninth-place finish at Martinsville.  In 2008, he began driving the #17 for Premier Racing, a team that he co-owned.  He and Premier ran a limited schedule in 2008 with a tenth-place run at Martinsville and was scheduled to run full-time in 2009.  Peters scored two consecutive top-tens at Daytona and California, putting his team fourth in owners points. After Texas, Peters took both his sponsor and crew chief and joined Red Horse Racing for the remainder of the 2009 season.  He would post four additional Top 5 finishes and finish eighth in points.  He would drive for Red Horse Racing until the team shut down part way through the 2017 season.  2010 started

with a bang as Peters won the season opening race at Daytona.  It would be the lone win on the season; but it was a big one.  He posted five Top 5 finishes and finished sixth in points.  2011 once again saw Peters wheel his Red Horse Racing Toyota to a win, and improve to seven Top 5 finishes and a fifth in points.  2012 would be the high water mark for Peters.  He visited victory circle on two occasions.  The first time at Iowa, and a few weeks later at Bristol.  He just missed out on the win at Daytona; coming home second; and almost posted another win at Kansas- also finishing second.  He would have 10 Top 5 finishes, and a whopping 16 Top 10's in 22 races.  He got beat out of the Championship by James Buescher by a slim six points.  Things looked bright for the 2013 season; but a series of crashes and mechanical gremlins caused poor

finishes, and took a toll on his points.  He won twice; but only had four Top 5 finishes and could only muster 11 Top 10's; relegating him to 10th in the points.  He rebounded the following year, leading the point standings for three weeks in the early stages of the year and triumphing at Talladega Superspeedway en route to a fifth place finish in points.  Taking on a leadership role within the organization in 2015 as the veteran on the team, Peters rebounded from early-season struggles to record two wins and again finish fifth in points.  Even though he failed to post a win in 2016; Peters qualified for the inaugural Truck Series Chase.  He claimed eight Top 5's and 16 Top 10's; made it to the final round, and finished fourth in points.  For several season Red Horse Racing and owner Tom DeLoach had been having problems finding sponsors for many seasons; despite their drivers running up front and winning races.  The team scaled back to just a two truck team at

the beginning of 2017; and driver Brett Moffitt was only guaranteed a ride through the seasons fifth race (Charlotte).  This situation could only last so long as on May 22, 2017, DeLoach announced that the team would shut down effectively immediately due to a lack of funding.  Peters was left without a ride. He did pick up a ride for three more races during the season; finishing 13th, 11th; and 10th.  Peters entered 2018 without a ride.  He did end up making his first career Cup start in April.  He made his NASCAR Cup Series debut at Talladega, driving the #92 Advance Auto Parts / BB&T Ford Fusion for RBR. Peters and the team came back to Daytona in the summer, but failed to qualify.  In late August, he began racing for GMS Racing for owner Maurey Gallagher.  In the truck series, piloting the #25 entry for the team due to the release of Dalton Sargeant.  Timothy won the Talladega

race after avoiding a last lap crash involving Noah Gragson. He had four Top 10's in five starts.  This win wasn't enough to get him a full time ride.  Too many young drivers and just not enough seats available.  Peters made four starts in the Truck series in 2019.  He started the first three races driving for Al Niece; owner of Niece Motorsports.  He had finishes of seventh, tenth and 12th.  He made one other start driving for Joe Nemechek and finished 23rd after a crash.  Pictured left is Peters last truck win to date; coming in 2018 at Talladega.  In 2020, Peters drove one race; when he filled in driving for Stewart Friesen at Kansas.  Friesen, was racing a dirt race elsewhere and had to miss the race.  Christopher Bell was originally announced

as the substitute, but due to this being a playoff race, Bell was not allowed to run.  He had a good race finishing seventh.  Peters ran ten races in 2021, all of them driving for Rackley W.A.R. Racing.  This was a new team and used a variety of drivers.  Josh Berry ran nine races and produced the teams only Top 10 finish; a tenth at Texas.  In Peters ten starts; his best finish was 16th.  Some info from Wikipedia
