DAVE  ROGERS   -   03/12/1974

an American NASCAR CUP crew chief.  He served as race engineer starting in 1998 for Tony Stewart's #20 under crew chief Greg Zipadelli.  Success on that team earned him the crew chief position on the #11 Cup team with driver Jason Leffler in 2005.  In 2006 Rogers moved back down to the Xfinity Series to lead Joe Gibbs driver Denny Hamlin.  The pair had two wins and finished fourth in points.  In 2007 Rogers switched back and forth between Hamlin and Aric Almirola.  Almirola won once, and Hamlin added three additional wins.  2008 and 2009 saw Rogers lead various drivers in the Xfinity series; mostly Cup drivers that stepped down to run a Xfinity races.  He led his drivers to nine Xfinity wins that season; Tony Stewart won on five occasions, while Denny Hamlin won twice and Kyle Busch and Joey Logano added one each.  Again in 2009 Rogers led a series of drivers with Logano

wheeling the car in 19 events and claiming five wins.  Rogers moved full time to the Cup series in 2010 working for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), and his driver Kyle Busch.  The pair had a successful first season visiting victory lane three times.  The following year saw them capture the checkered hankie four times and have 14 Top 5 finishes.  Busch missed one race relegating him to 12th in points.  Rogers remained Busch’s lead wrench through 2014.  During that span they claimed a win in 2012 and 2014 and had four wins in 2013 and finished fourth best in the points.  In 2015 Rogers was moved to work with Denny Hamlin and he grabbed two wins.  In 2016 Rogers was moved to work with yet another Joe Gibbs drivers.  This time he was paired up with Carl Edwards.  They won three races that season and was in contention for the Cup Championship in Homestead.  Racing for the lead late in the race, Edwards tangled with another car and was out of the race.  He finished fourth in points; and then he surprised everyone and retired from racing.  After Edwards retired, Rogers became the crew chief for Daniel Suárez in the #19 team.  On March 29, 2017, it was announced that Rogers would be taking an indefinite personal leave of absence, with Scott Graves serving as crew chief of the #19 team.  In June, JGR announced that Rogers would become the Technical Director for JGR's Xfinity Series teams.  On October 9th, 2018, effective immediately, Rogers, is to return as crew chief to the #19 driven by Daniel Suarez for the last 6 races.  Scott Graves, the now ex-chew chief for the #19 is to leave Joe Gibbs Racing; since Martin Truex is moving over to drive the #19 car and bringing his crew chief Cole Pearn with him.  After two and a half years in his technical director position, JGR announced in November, 2019, that Rogers would return to crew chiefing full-time and he would work with Riley Herbst in his first full time Xfinity season for 2020.  It was unclear who would replace Rogers as the technical director for JGR's Xfinity operations in 2020.  Rogers and Herbst had a good season.  Herbst wasn't able to get a win; but he did get two second place finishes (Fontana and Kentucky).  He ran up in the lead pack most of the races and had only four Top 5's but a whopping 17 Top 10 finishes.  He made the Chase; but would finish 12th in points.  Rogers remained to call the shots for the #18 in 2021 while Daniel Hemric was brought in to drive the car full time.  Herbst drove the #98 for Stewart-Hass Racing.  Rogers and Hemric had a great season.  Hemric once again had his usual struggles getting to victory lane.  He posted three second place finishes, but pointed his way into the Chase.  In the last nine races of the season they only had one finish worse than tenth.  In the Championship race it was a battle between Hemric and Austin Cindric.  The duo combined to lead 161 of the 204 laps in the race.  On the final restart, Hermic and Cindric were right together.  Cindric won at the white flag, and was they entered the last corner Hemric got into the back of him and sent him up the track and scooted under him.  The two finished the race side by side with Hemric getting his first career win and also the Xfinity Championship.  Hemric is leaving to go drive for Kaulig Racing in 2022.  Rogers will go to 23XI Racing as performance director.  For his career Rogers owns 21 Xfinity series wins and the 2021 Xfinity Championship.  He also has 18 Cup Series victories.
