WALLY  ROGERS   -   ?/?/?

An American NASCAR crew chief; Rogers got his start in 2001 working in the Xfinity series for driver Randy Lajoie and owner Ed Evans.  They would win right out of box, claiming the season opening race at Daytona.  They would win again before the season ended.  They finished 12th in points.  In 2002 they didn’t post any wins, but consistent finishes saw them move up to 11th in the final standings.  Rogers worked with a variety of drivers in 2003 with Lajoie running 17 of the events.  In 2004 Rogers went to the Truck series working for owner Kevin Harvick leading up driver Matt Crafton.  They had six Top 5 finishes and ended up fifth in the points.  Harvick replaced Crafton in 2005 with driver Ron Hornaday. They grabbed one win and finished fourth in the points chase.  In 2006 he once again lead a variety of drivers in the Xfinity series who drove for Harvick.  Tony Stewart would claim the only win.  2007 saw Harvick hire Bobby Labonte; Ron Hornaday and three other drivers to drive his cars.  Harvick himself also ran four events.  Only Labonte was able to find Victory lane as he won at Talladega.  In 2008 Harvick drove 13 races for his team and Cale Gale raced six times.  Harvick wasn’t able to win a race, and he had a best finish of second on two occasions while posting six Top 5 finishes.  In 2009, Rogers was hired by Richard Petty Motorsports and moved up to the Cup series.  He replaced Elliott Sadlers crew

chief Kevin Buskirk with 13 races to go in the season.  They managed to post two Top 10 finishes before the season ended.  He started out again with Elliott the following season; but was released 18 races into the season.  Rogers moved to Levine Family Racing in 2011 and worked with David Starr.  They attempted eight races; and did not qualify for four of them.  Scott Speed was brought in to drive the following season part time.  He made 15 starts and had a best finish of 17th.  Speed ran 12 races in 2013; while Reed Sorenson would run six and Scott Riggs ran once.  Speed posted the only one Top 10 of the trio of drivers as he finished ninth at Talladega.  The following season saw Rogers lead Michael McDowell in 19 events and McDowell posted a season best of seventh at Daytona.  In 2015 the duo ran in 11 races but failed to record a Top 10 finish.  Then Leavine Family Racing announced that Rogers had been released.  The next season Rogers moved to GoFas Racing working for owner Archie St Hilaire.  Eight different drivers raced the car that season.  None of them would claim a Top 10 finish.  In 2017, Rogers was hired by Mark Smith to work with driver JJ Yeley full time in the Xfinity series.  He posted a best finish of 6th that season but had 10 finishes inside the Top 15.  In 2018 Rogers worked five races in the Cup series. Three races with Corey Lajoie and two with Cole Whitt.  Rogers was brought over to replace Frank Kerr with five races to go in the season and lead the #72 cars efforts.  As the 2019 began, it saw Rogers working for All Out Motorsports with driver Korbin Forrister.  The team missed making the field at Daytona and posted a best of 14th in six races before Rogers and the team parted ways. Owner/driver Jordan Anderson hired Rogers to be his crew chief starting at Kentucky.  That race he crashed; but the next week at Pocono Anderson finished 13th and followed that the next week with a 14th place result.  Anderson would post a seasons best finish of 12th at Martinsville.  Rogers remained with Anderson in 2020.  Anderson drove only 13 races; and had various drivers fill the seat.  Anderson posted the only Top 5 finish for the season, when he finished second in the season opening race at Daytona.  Rogers left to go work for Al Niece in 2021.  There, as the season before, he worked with various young drivers.  Only Ryan Truex was able to post a Top 5 finish, again coming at Daytona.  Wally Rogers was paired with Kris Wright for a majority of the starts in 2022. Wright made 14 starts under the watchful eye of Rogers; but unfortunately, they did not produce any top ten finishes. They had a best finish of 15 at COTA; but had 12 finishes worse than 20th.  Owner Al Niece is trying to grow his organization; and three full time trucks might be stretching them a bit thin.  Bailey Curry made three starts, and also posted a best finish of 15th.  Lawless Alan and Carson Hocevar also raced full time for Niece in 2022.  Rogers worked with Lawless Alan all of 2023.  The team only had one top ten finish, when they ran tenth at Talladega.  They had ten top 20 finishes.  The duo will be back together in 2024 looking for better results.  For his career, on the Cup side, his luck has not been good.  He spent most of his career working for under-funded teams.  He wasn’t able to get a win; nor any Top 5 finishes as of yet.  He did have the lone Truck Series win with Hornaday in 2005.  For his career Rogers, had six Xfinity series wins.  Two with Lajoie, two with Greg Biffle, and one each with Bobby Labonte and Tony Stewart.
