PETE  RONDEAU   -   11/05/1965

Rondeau got his start as a NASCAR crew chief working for Dale Earnhardt Inc.  In 2004 he made his first start in the season opening Daytona 500 with driver John Andretti.  The pairing produced a 13th place finish. Rondeau would work with five different drivers in 2004 among them being Ron Fellows, Martin Truex Jr, Kenny Wallace and Michael Waltrip.  Together they made 14 starts with Ron Fellows posting the only Top 5 finish; when he finished second at Watkins Glen.  That season he also led Tony Stewart for one race and Dale Earnhardt Jr for one event in the Xfinity Series.  Earnhardt would claim a win at Bristol.  2005 saw Rondeau again be a part time crew chief as he worked with Dale Earnhardt Jr in two Xfinity races and 11 Cup starts.  They finished second in the Xfinity race at Daytona, and finished third the following day in the Daytona 500.  In the first 11 races they posted three Top 5 finishes and five Top 10's.  Even with reasonably good success; Rondeau was cut loose from DEI and replaced by Steve Hmiel.  Rondeau later joined the Denver-based Furniture Row Racing as the team’s car chief; but It wasn't until 2010 when Rondeau again sat on top of the pit box when he was hired by Barney Visser, to head up his Cup team.  Driver Regan Smith's crew chief was let go after 12 races that season and Rondeau took his place.  They had a best finish of 12th (twice) and only posted eight Top 20 finishes.  He stayed with Smith full time in 2011; and the duo managed to pull off the upset win at Darlington in the Southern 500.  2012 saw Rondeau again paired together for the first 19 races; after which he was elevated to the competition

director position.  Since Rondeau has held this position their driver Martin Truex has won 15 races and the 2017 Cup Championship.  In 2016 Truex won eight races including the Coke 600 and Southern 500. Rondeau still holds this position as 2018 kicks off.
