DANNY  STOCKMAN   -   ?/?/?

Stockman is a California native, he earned his racing stripes in the shadows of Las Vegas Motor Speedway with Brendan Gaughan. Growing up racing late models in California alongside Gaughan, Stockman made the move to Las Vegas after graduating high school for the chance to start the next chapter of his racing career as a mechanic instead of a driver. Former rivals turned to helpful hands as the Gaughan family brought Stockman on as general help on their Camping World Truck Series team. When Stockman realized becoming a successful driver was most likely out of reach, he readjusted his goals and determined he would become a NASCAR crew chief one day. That’s where Gaughan’s Orleans Racing team came in. “I made my mind up (to pursue being a crew chief), I went to help a team in Phoenix, and I gave Shane Wilson (former Brendan Gaughan crew chief) my resume,” said

Stockman. “They called me a couple of weeks later and said they wanted me to do a two-week trial period at their shop. By the fourth day they hired me and put me up in a hotel for a month and a half until I got enough money together to get my own apartment.” Stockman spent four years working with the Gaughan family at Orleans Racing, starting there as a floor sweeper and by the end of his time there he was a car chief making a good living. In 2011, Stockman went to work with Richard Childress Racing to lead the efforts of Childress' grandson Austin Dillon in the NASCAR Truck Series. The duo produced success as Dillon got two wins along with ten top fives and would claim the 2011 Truck Championship. The duo also made their first Cup start in 2011 as Dillon made at start in Kansas, where he started and finished 26th. 2012 saw Stockman and Dillon move full time to the Xfinity Series. They posted two wins once again and had 15 top five finishes. Even with a good season they only finished third in points as Ricky Stenhouse claimed the Championship. 2013 they went winless; but with only one finish worse than 21st and 13 top fives finishes he had a shot to win the Championship. A strong run the seven races before Homestead found him in the points lead. He only had to finish close to Sam Hornich to get the Championship. Hornish finished the race in eighth while Dillon came home twelveth to win the Championship by three points. Austin moved up to run full time in the Cup series in 2014; and Stockman took over calling the shots for Austins brother TY full time in the Xfinity series. Ty won once and would finish fifth in points. in 2015 RCR would field two teams in the Xfinity series with Stockman leading the efforts of four different drivers. Austin drove nine races; and he got two wins with Stockman. Paul Menard would add another visit to victory circle with Stockman. 2016 saw Stockman head up the efforts of the #2 car than again had four different drivers at the controls. Only Austin Dillon was able to post a win in the cars 19 starts. Danila Hemric was hired to drive full time for RCR in the Xfinity series. Hemric was a great talent in the Super Late Model series and showed lots of promise. The pair didn't claim a win but ran up front a lot and posted a second place finish at Mid-Ohio. Even without a win he made the Chase and was in the hunt for the Championship when the series went to Homestead. Hemric had a rough night and ended up fourth in the points. The dup paired up again for 2018 and again went winless; finishing second four times. They even had half of their season's race finishes inside the top five. and 22 of 32 inside the top ten. Again they were at Homestead with a shot at winning the Championship. Hemric was unable to keep pace with eventual Champion Tyler Reddick and finished third in the points. For 2019, Stockman moved to the Cup series full time, and was once again paired up with Austin Dillon.  Hemric is also moving to the Cup Series and will have Luke Lambert calling the shots.  The season would be an utter disappointment.  The pair didn't come close to winning and didn't even have a Top 5.  They were only able to finish in the Top 10 on six occasions.  The vast majority of their finishes came between 15th and 25 place.  The duo missed the Chase and eventually finished outside of the top twenty in points.  Stockman was hired by Kyle Busch Motorsports to lead the #51 vehicle in the Truck Series.  A variety of drivers drove the #51 in 2020.  Kyle Busch raced five times, Smith drove eleven events; while Brandon Jones made three starts.  A couple other drivers made one start.  Busch would win three times with Stockman at the helm; while Jones would add another win.  For the season Stockman's drivers posted four wins; nine Top 5 and ten Top 10 finishes. For 2021 Stockman stayed with Kyle Busch Motorsports in the Truck Series; but he moved over to lead the efforts of Chandler Smith who competed full time.  Stockman led the young man to two wins in 2021.  He posted a whole bunch of Top 5 finishes (6) and added eight Top 10’s.  He just missed making it into the season championship race at Phoenix.  That race he won; and had he been eligible he would have won the Championship.  Smith and Stockman were paired together again in 2022; and expected to be a strong force.  The duo put together one of the best seasons of Stockman's career.  The pair won the second race of the season at Las Vegas; locking them into the Chase.  Nine of the next 13 races saw them have a worst finish of eighth; before they went to victory lane again, at Pocono.  The play-offs began the next week at IRP, and they would pair to win the next race at Richmond; punching their ticket to the round of eight.  When that started, they finished ninth at Bristol, 14th at Talladega and tenth at Homestead.  Zane Smith won the race; followed by Ben Rhodes and Chandler Smith.  He finished third in the race and points.  Smith is moving up to the Xfinity series in 2023 and will work with Bruce Schlicker as crew chief.  Stockman will remain in the Truck Series working with Rev Racing and their driver Nick Sanchez.  After making eight starts in the Xfinity series in 2022, Sanchez moved to run full time in the Truck series.  The Rookie made a pretty good showing of himself, even finishing second at Atlanta.  They made the Chase and were eliminated the race before the Championship.  They finished sixth in points.  For the year they had two top five finishes and twelve top tens. Sanchez will be back in the #2 in 2024, but Stockman will move to the Xfinity series and lead Rookie Jesse Love.
