RAMO  STOTT   -   04/06/1934 - 08/20/2021

a retired American stock car driver from Keokuk, Iowa.  He competed in NASCAR Winston Cup, USAC stock car, and ARCA.  He was the ARCA champion in 1970 and 1971.  He competed in USAC's Stock Car division, finishing second in 1973, 1976, 1977, first in 1975, and third in 1974.  He accumulated 27 wins in the ARCA Series.  Stott was a key driver in the Keokuk, Iowa, pipeline of talented racers who made national stock car racing headlines in the IMCA, ARCA, and NASCAR stock car series including Ernie Derr, Dick Hutcherson and Ron Hutcherson.  Stott won his first ARCA race in 1969 at Crown Point, Indiana and recorded his final victory in 1988 at Hazard, Kentucky, at the age of 54.  Stott was among a group of ARCA drivers in the 1960s and 1970s who moved into the NASCAR Cup Series and enjoyed success including Charlie Glotzbach, Nelson Stacy, Benny Parsons, and fellow Iowans Dick and Ron Hutcherson.  They helped pioneer the pathway from ARCA to NASCAR, commonly referred to as “driver development.”  His greatest NASCAR accomplishment was starting from the

pole for the 1976 Daytona 500.  He was awarded the pole after the front-row starters, Darrell Waltrip and A.J. Foyt were disqualified for illegal engines.  He raced part-time in 35 starts between 1967 to 1977.  His highest career finish was second at Talladega.  Stott never ran many Cup races, but he was always competitive.  In 35 starts he had 17 top 10 finishes, and five top fives.  Some info from Wikipedia
