VERNON  FAIRGROUNDS   -   VERNON  NY

Both Cup races held at Vernon were in 1950.  The first was in June, and was 200 laps around the 1/2 mile dirt oval. Chuck Mahoney won the pole and scooted out to lead the first 18 laps.  Then he was overtaken by Lloyd Moore who took the point for just six laps before Bill Blair would power by.  15,000 people saw Blair go on to lead the final 176 laps to grab the winners check.  Moore finished second and Mahoney third.  The second race of the season was also the final race at Vernon Fairgrounds for the Cup cars.  Dick Linder and Ted Swaim battled the whole race to see who would go to victory lane.  At the end Linder was able to pull out the win by five car lengths. Swain was second with

Lloyd Moore third.  In the fall race; a field of 29 cars started the 200 lap race; that saw 20 cars finish.  One of those was Ann Bunselmeyer who finished 18th in a Packard.  Her one and only start was in the Vernon race. Bunselmeyer apparently had pretty good credentials to enter the show.  The weekend before Vernon's GN race, Bunselmeyer won the pole and led the first 20 laps in a race at Rhinebeck Speedway.  She also won at Islip Speedway,
