WALL  STADIUM   -   WALL TOWNSHIP  NJ

Founders Tom and Jennie Nicol sought to build their own racetrack after enjoying stock car racing at Long Branch Speedway.  The couple bought 55 acres of land off Route 34 in Wall Township and built a one-quarter mile oval with 30° banking in the turns, unheard of at the time.  Wall Stadium (also known briefly as Wall Township Speedway) is a 1/3-mile, high banked (30° in corners) paved oval track in Wall Township, New Jersey, United States.  The track opened to the public in the spring of 1950 and has operated for at least a part of every year since.  The track was an early home to racing stars Ray Evernham, Jr. and the Truex family of Martin Sr., Martin Jr. and Ryan Truex. The NASCAR Cup and Convertible series both raced here once.  1956 saw the convertible's roll in and Curtis Turner started one the pole, led every one of the 300 laps, and

whipped the field by four laps.  When the Cup cars came in 1958; the race was much closer.  Although Jim Reed led all 300 laps to get the win; he just beat out Rex White by one car length.  Buck Baker and Lee Petty finished third and fourth, also on the lead lap.  Racing has continued on over the years.  After the 2007 season, several employees were laid off.  The track closed on March 14, 2008, with the track's marquee reading CLOSED FOR GOOD.  After eleven months sitting inactive, former track operations manager Jim Morton secured a lease to operate the race track for one race, the traditional season ending Turkey Derby in November

2008, and the crowd was overwhelming for what wasthe track's only race of the season.  The track officially reopened for a full season of racing in 2009, capped by the Turkey Derby.  The tracks seems to have operated each season on a series of one year leases.  They race regularly and have Modified, Sportsman, Limited Late Model, Stocks, 4 Cylinder, and Legend cars.  As of 2022, the facility is racing weekly from April through October; with the big season ending Turkey Derby in late November.  Well known drivers who raced over the years John Blewett III, Jimmy Blewett, Jimmy Spencer, Charlie Jarzombek and Richie Evans just to name a few.
