ALEXANDER  KENNETH  "ALEX"  YONTZ   -   07/13/1986

Alex Yontz raced briefly in the ARCA and NASCAR Truck Series.  In 2005, he made four starts in the #61 Chevy.  Two races he had mechanical failures, and the other two he finished 28th and 29th.  In 2007, he made three ARCA starts driving for Richard Childress.  He had a great run and finished fourth at Kentucky in July, but crashed out of the other two events.  His final two ARCA starts came in 2009, and in quality equipment supplied by Bill Venturini.  He had a finish of ninth at Rockingham, and a tenth at Kentucky.  Yontz was brought into the fold of Kaulig racing to be the crew chief for the #10 car in the Xfinity Series.  Yontz began crew chiefing midway through 2019 after the unexpected death of Nick Harrison.  In July, Harrison died at age 37 of acute intoxication from cocaine, oxycodone and alcohol.  His death was ruled accidental.  Justin Haley was paired with Yontz for the rest of the 2019 season.  In 14 starts they had a best finish of second when he finished fourth at Dover.  They had six top ten finishes together.  Yontz would get his first

win as a crew chief when he led Ross Chastain to the win at Daytona in August.  When 2020 rolled in, Yontz would lead Haley full time in the Xfinity Series.  The pair had a good season as they won three times; all on the super speedways.  Twice at Talladega and once at Daytona.  They would have nine top five finishes, and 20 top tens.  They finished third in series points.  The duo paired up again in 2021, and Haley would claim one win; again on the super speedway of Daytona.  Again, they had nine top five finishes, and improved to 24 top tens.  However, they finished sixth in the points.  Yontz started out the 2022 season as the man calling the shots for driver Daniel Hemric, as they worked for owner Kaulig Racing.  But changes would come before season's end.  Hemric ran well again in 2022; but a very stout field seemed to take up the top 6 to 8 spots each race.  Kaulig has a good organization; but seemed to be just a half a step behind the teams of JR Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing.  Daytona saw Hemric have issues, and finish 28th.  But they ran well finishing 12th at Fontana, added an eighth at Phoenix, and had a third at Phoenix. ,He was involved in a crash at Atlanta and another at Talladega., All but one race, the next nine race span saw no finish worse than 17th, and they had four top tens.  They kept working to improve their finishes; but they still seemed to finish 15th or better most races.  This performance got them into the Chase on his points.  Crew chief Jason Trinchere was brought in to lead Hemric the last couple races of the regular season.  The crew chiefs swapped drivers as Trinchere was brought over from team mate Landon Cassill, and Yontz went to finish out the season with him.  A crash in the opening race saw them finish 30th; and a seventh and 17th place finish the next two races was not good enough to advance them to the next round.  However the final six races saw a lot of improvement as the season wound down.  They had five finishes in the top ten, and could prove to be a good jumping off points for 2023.  Hemric will be back with Kaulig Racing in 2023 and it is anticipated Trinchere will call the shots.  Yontz worked with a bevy of different drivers in 2023; eleven in fact.  He made one start with Kyle Larson at Darlington where they started third and pulled off the win.  He had four starts with Kyle Busch and they had three top tens with a best finish of fourth.  His best results came with AJ Allmendinger.  They were paired together for five events with great success.  The won twice, COTA and Nashville.  They were second at Sonoma, and third at Indy’s road course.  Their worst run came when they finished ninth at Elkhart Lake.  Justin Haley made five starts with a best finish of fourth.  Daniel Hemric made the most starts; eight.  They finished second at Bristol and had a run of five top ten finishes in six starts.  For his career Yontz had led all his drivers in the Xfinity series.  Over five season his drivers have made 154 starts, and compiled eight wins and 35 top five finishes.
