JOSHUA  WILLIAM  "JOSH"  BERRY   -   10/22/1990 -

Berry was born in Hendersonville, TN; just outside of Nashville.  He began his racing career at age eight, competing in the Tennessee Karting Association before progressing to the highly-acclaimed World Karting Association in 2001. Following several seasons racing go-karts, Berry and his father made the decision to progress his career to U.S. Legend cars in 2006.  Berry met his future car owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. in 2008 when competing in a number of iRacing events together. At the time, he was driving a Legends car, racing at his home track of Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, TN.  Berry worked as a bank teller before his racing career provided a steady income. He is a graduate of Volunteer State Community College. Berry is a former classmate of IndyCar champion Josef Newgarden in the 7th and 8th grades.  Berry was tabbed by team-owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. in 2010 and joined the JRM Late Model program that spring. In only a year, he was named the Late Model Most

Popular Driver by Speed51.com. Berry leveraged the popularity into on-track success in 2012, taking home track-champion honors in the NWAAS at Motor Mile Speedway.  In 2014, Berry's first NASCAR Xfinity Series race came at Iowa Speedway, driving the #5 Chevrolet Camaro for JR Motorsports. He started tenth and finished twelfth, finishing on the lead lap. He returned to the #5 car for the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, again logging a lead-lap finish in 25th.  The 2016 season was a successful one for the 26-year-old Tennessee native, as he won 14 times in 24 starts among all starts and amassed 21 top-five finishes in the #88 Chevrolet Camaro. Five CARS

Late Model Stock Car Series victories.  In 2016 increased his all-time victory mark in the series.  He also made his first NASCAR truck start.  It came at Chicagoland Speedway driving for Carlos Contreras. He started 22nd and finished 13th on the lead lap.  Berry won five NASCAR Whelen All-American Series events as well, including the annual Fall Brawl at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway.  In 2017, Berry took on the CARS Late Model Stock Car series for thet hird straight year, hoping to build on his lead in career CARS LMSC victories.  Berry remains the only JRM driver to win multiple championships for the organization, having won the CARS LMSC driver title in 2017, and CARS

owner title in 2016 and the track championships at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway and Motor Mile (Radford, Va.) Speedway.  Berry swept the series races at Concord (March and August), and added victories at Anderson (S.C.) Motor Speedway and Tri-County (N.C.) Speedway. Berry won his second Bobby Isaac Memorial trophy at Hickory and capped the 2017 season with a victory in the Myrtle Beach 400, giving him another crown jewel in the sport.  In April of 2018 Berry made his debut in the ARCA Series at Salem Speedway.  He started second and finished fourth; and was the only ARCA start he ever made.  In 2019, Berry went to

Martinsville speedway determined to get a win after letting the win get away in the ValleyStar Credit Union 200.  A late race tangle in 2019 had denied him that win.  But in 2019, he started on the pole after posting a track record in qualifying. Berry led every one of the 200 laps, took both 75-lap stages and was 15 car lengths ahead when the checkered flag waved.  The grandfather clock—and a check for $44,000 denoting the richest payday in the race’s history — belonged to Josh Berry.  In 2020, Berry focused on the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly series winning 24 races en route to a national championship.  JR Motorsports hired Berry to drive for them part time in

2021.  He ran 22 Xfinity races and proved he could wheel a car.  He grabbed a win at Martinsville in only his sixth start for the team; and at the same time claimed his second grandfather clock.  He would win again before seasons end at Las Vegas.  He posted six Top 5 and 12 Top 10’s in those starts.  He also made his first Cup start this season.  He drove for Spire Motorsports at Dover filling in for Justin Haley; and got into an accident.  At Michigan, he filled in for Corey LaJoie who was sick.  He ran well until getting swept up in a wreck with 12 laps to go.  Berry got full time ride with JR Motorsports in 2022; and was expected to be a title contender.  As expected, he was.  He finished 16th as the season opened at Daytona.  Then he had three finishes inside the top four the next three races.  A crash at Atlanta,

and an incident at COTA, saw him place 27th or worse those events.  He broke through and got a win at Dover as he beat out JR Motorsports team-mate Justin Allgaier.  This win locked him into the championship chase.  Most finishes after that first win were inside thetop ten.  He only had four finishes the rest of the year worse than 14th.  In the Chase he grabbed the win at Las Vegas, locking himself into the Championship four.  Three JRM drivers made the championship four as Berry was joined by Justin Allgaier and Noah Gragson.  But no one had anything for TY Gibbs in the championship race at Phoenix as he drove away from the field to be the 2022 Xfinity Champ.  Berry's team

missed the set up on that day and he  never contended for the win.  He finished 13th in the race and fourth in series points.  Berry was back with JRM in 2023; running full time in the Xfinity series. Berry had a season much like the one the previous year; except he went win-less.  His best finish came when he finished second at Dover; and Michigan.  He had eleven top five finishes and 18 top tens; which was enough to see him qualify to make the Chase to run for the Xfinity Championship.  After a crash at Bristol, where he finished 36th; and a 27th place finish at Texas, he was eliminated after the first round.  The headline making item was his runs in the Cup series.  Chase Elliott broke his leg snow boarding after the race at Fontana, and would be sidelined for six weeks.  Berry filled in for him during that

period, and he had some good runs that opened some owners eyes.  Is his second start he posted a tenth place finish at Phoenix; then two weeks later he almost pulled off a win, when he finished second to Kyle Larson at Richmond.  He had another tenth place run at Dover.  He made two additional runs in the Cup series, driving for Legacy Motor Club after Noah Gragson was suspended.  In a surprise move, Berry agreed to fill the seat for Kevin Harvick after he retired; driving the #4 Ford.  Berry had been a driver in the Chevy camp driving for JRM ever since he started in the Xfinity series in 2014; and as a fill in for Rick Hendrick and Legacy.  So, the move to Ford came

as a surprise.  We’ll see how things pan out at Stewart-Haas and Berry in 2024.  Some info from Wikipedia
