HARRISON  BRIAN  BURTON   -   10/09/2000

The son of former Sprint Cup Series driver Jeff Burton, he started out in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, driving the #12 Toyota Camry for MDM Motorsports, and also part-time in the ARCA Racing Series, driving the #28 Toyota for MDM Motorsports, and then also part-time in the Camping World Truck Series, driving the #51 Toyota Tundra for Kyle Busch Motorsports.  Burton's racing career started off when he received a go-kart at age two, which later turned in to a quarter midget at age four.  After starting to race them at age twelve, Burton won his first late model race in early 2014.  His first super late model win came in early 2015, at New Smyrna Speedway.  The Charlotte, North Carolina native made his CARS debut in 2015, running six of the series' ten races.  He finished third at Southern National Motorsports Park and fourth at Concord Speedway.  In his ARCA Racing Series debut for Ranier Racing with MDM, Burton started sixth and finished third after almost being spun out by eventual race winner Chase Briscoe.  Returning in 2017 with MDM Motorsports, Burton chased down Dalton Sargeant on the final run of the race at Toledo

Speedway to win in only his second series start.  Starting with the 2016 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season opener at New Smyrna, Burton became the youngest driver to start a race in the series.  He also garnered a full-time ride from HScott Motorsports using their Toyotas.  After HScott Motorsports with Justin Marks shut down, Burton moved to MDM Motorsports bringing his number and sponsor.  He also signed an extension with Kevin Harvick Incorporated to bring in sponsors like DEX Imaging, Hunt Brothers Pizza, Rheem and others.  His performance also gained attention, winning a rain-shortened race at Bristol.  He then outlasted the field at Memphis the following race after Todd Gilliland  had a flat tire.  At Dover in 2017 he won the 2017 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Championship.  Burton signed on with

Kyle Busch Motorsports to drive the #18 Toyota Tundra for the 2016 Alpha Energy Solutions 250 at Martinsville Speedway in late October.  Due to NASCAR rules and regulations maintaining that a driver has to be sixteen years of age before competing in any national series event, Burton was therefore barred from entering any events before October 9 of that year.  He showed speed early, cracking the top ten in practice, but faltered during the race and finished one lap down in 22nd. Burton signed with Kyle Busch Motorsports to run both Martinsville races, as well as Dover, Iowa, Eldora, and Bristol in the #51 Toyota Tundra in 2017.  His worst finish of those six events was an 18th at Bristol.  He posted a best of fourth at Martinsville.  Going into 2018 Burton still found himself in that age limit quandary.  He won't turn 18 until October; and to compete

full-time in any of NASCAR’s top three series a driver must be 18 years old.  So Harrison, who won’t turn 18 until October of next year, has few other options for 2018, other than what he already did this year, which is a combination of K&N Pro Series, ARCA, Late Models and some Truck races.  If there is a seat available when he comes of age to drive full time in NASCAR; expect big things from this young driver.  Burton spent all of 2018 bouncing around between several different series.  He made nine starts in the ARCA Series and won at Pocono and had eight Top 10's in his nine starts.  He also ran the K&N Series and posted four Top 5's in five starts; including two runner up finishes.

In addition he ran seven NASCAR Truck Series races with a best finish if third on two occasions.  He ran all his Truck races for Kyle Busch Motorsports and posted three Top 5's and six Top 10's.  In November of 2018 it was announced that Burton would wheel the #18 truck for Kyle Busch Motorsports on a full time basis.  He replaced Noah Gragson, who is going to drive in the Xfinity Series for JR Motorsports.  Gragson piloted the #9 car that was vacated by Tyler Reddick who went to race for RCR at the end of the season.  Burton's 2019 season saw him run up front often; but his inexperience often got him in trouble as he would crash by himself damaging his vehicle.  He made every start in the Truck Series (23); and in every event that he did stay out of trouble, he posted a good result.  He had seven Top 5 finishes and 11 Top 10.  His best finish was

third on three occasions.  He finished 12th in the points.  In addition he made nine Xfinity Series starts, also wheeling a Kyle Busch Motorsports car.  He crashed twice and had suspension failure once; but other than that, he had five finishes inside the Top 10.  For 2020 Burton moved to the Xfinity Series full time to drive the Joe Gibbs #20.  That ride has opened up since 2019 driver Christopher Bell is moving up to the Cup Series full time.  Burton's move up to the Xfinity Series showed how much natural talent he has.  In just his third start of 2020; he grabbed a win at Fontana CA.  In fact, the first ten races he finished no worse than ninth; while adding another win at Homestead.  The next five races the team had poor finishes with crashes and mechanical woes; but were always near the front before the issues occurred.  Outside of the 'crap shoot' of Talladega and one other crash; Burton never finished worse than 16th the entire season.  In the Chase he ran well; but

was eliminated in the third round after transmissions issues on the Roval at Charlotte.  He finished with a flurry winning at Texas and Martinsville and closed the season with a sixth at Phoenix.  For the season he had four wins, with 15 Top 5s and a whopping 22 Top 10s.  Burton was back with Joe Gibbs Racing in 2021, looking to improve on 2020.  As it turns out, 2021 was a disappointing season for Burton.  He posted best finish of second; had ten Top 5 and 22 Top 10’s.  Victory just eluded him.  He missed making the Championship race and finished eighth in the points.  He moved to the Cup for 2022 and drive the #21 for the Wood Brothers.  Burton’s first Cup start also came in 2021 with Gaunt Brother Racing at Talladega.  He started 39th and finished on the lead lap in 20th.  After two years of racing

in the Xfinity series; he made the move to the Cup Series running for the famous Wood Brothers.  The first race of the season he looked strong and looked like he might have some of the Wood Brothers magic.  Burton run in the front of the pack much of the first 60 laps.  On lap 64; while leading, Burton got tapped and spun in front of the field.  He flipped over and luckily the car sat back down on it's wheels.  Burton ended up 39th.  The next week, with about 40 laps to go, he was caught up in a crash with Bubba Wallace; Brad Keselowski and Austin Cindric.  He ended up finishing 33rd.  Being a rookie showed for Burton.  That and the fact he drove for a one car team, seemed to hold him back.  Most finishes came in the high teens to mid-20's.  He had a good run in the Coke 600 at

Charlotte; just missing his first Top 10 when he finished 11th.  At his return to Atlanta he had another good run and claimed that tenth place finish.  In 2022, Atlanta had underwent a complete overhaul and narrowed the track; while giving it more banking.  NASCAR changed the aero package for Atlanta and it raced like the super speedways of Daytona and Talladega.  Burton had run well at those tracks, and it showed as he led nine laps and finished seventh in stage two.  At the Indianapolis road course he ran well and posted his first top five finish as he ended up a season high third.  He was back in the #21 car for 2023.  His season was much like his previous season. His best finish came at the spring Darlington race when he finished sixth.  It would be one of only two top ten

finishes.  He had eight top 20 finishes as the Wood Brothers and their small single car team continued to struggle to run up front.  He’ll be back behind the wheel of the famous #21 in 2024.  He has made 73 Cup starts with one Top 5 and two Top 10 finishes.  At this point he has also made 75 Xfinity starts and posted four wins and 46 Top 5’s.  He has 40 Truck starts with eleven Top 5’s.  Some info from Wikipedia
