LAKEVIEW  SPEEDWAY   -   MOBIL  AL

(Mobil Speedway / New Mobil Speedway)

Lakeview Speedway, also known as Mobile Speedway or New Mobile Speedway, was an American automobile racing circuit in Mobile, Alabama. Lakeview Speedway was a 3/4 mile short track speedway that was built around the outside of Cochran Lake. The track opened in 1947 and closed in 1953. The track is best remembered for many drivers ending up in the lake. The track held two Cup races, both in 1951. The first was in April and 150 laps in length. Tim Flock would lead 148 laps and beat brother Fonty Flock by half a lap. Herb Thomas was third. In November, the Cup series returned for the final Cup event of the 41 race season. Frank Mundy would pilot his 1951 Studebaker to the win, leading all 150 laps. Tim Flock would finish second; but it would not be good enough to

overtake Herb Thomas for the 1951 Cup Championship. Fonty Flock finished fourth in the race and third in the Championship.
