JACK WHITE - 5/14/1920 - 11/23/1988

A native of Lockport, New York; he made quite a debut in 1949, competing at Hamburg Speedway in Hamburg NY outside Buffalo. Although starting positions in the field of sixteen are unknown, it is known that White led 66 of the 200 laps, and pulled out of town with a shocking victory. It was his only career Cup win, and was amazing to come in his first start. White's next seven races all came in the 1950 season, when he started off with an impressive 20th place run at Daytona Beach. He was even better his next start, with a seventh place run at Charlotte. He struggled, though, in his next five races; finishing 25th at Langhorne, and then 22nd at Martinsville. His only other career top five finish came when he returned to Hamburg, where he finished fifth. His other two starts that year were 24th or worse. White's final four races came in the 1951 season, when he started the year off at Dayton. After a so-so 18th place finish, White went to Heidelberg Raceway, outside Pittsburg PA, finishing a season-best 15th. His last two races he also experienced struggles. He finished 29th at Detroit, and in his final start he would bring home his race car in 41st, in a 44 car field at Morristown Speedway in NJ. He passed away on November 11, 1988
